The day to day activities of Bar Mutual are delegated to the Managers, Thomas Miller. The Managers are the principal point of contact between Bar Mutual and its Members. The key members of staff at the Managers are listed below.
Chief Executive Officer
Ahmed joined the Professional Indemnity Division of Thomas Miller after qualifying as a barrister and working in the insurance industry with Lloyds of London.
His first role was to handle claims against barristers. He quickly moved to handling claims against solicitors and surveyors and eventually heading the Claims Department.
He now combines the roles of Club Manager of Bar Mutual Management Company Ltd, Claims Manager and General Manager of the PI Division.
Redvers joined Thomas Miller after completing his pupillage at 2-3 Gray's Inn Square.
He started his career as a claims handler for Bar Mutual. He is now Club Manager of the mutuals HAMIA and PAMIA.
He has been involved in the establishment of a number of new businesses, including OPDU and a commercial ATE insurance facility with TheJudge.
David joined Thomas Miller in March 1999 after completing the BCL degree at Oxford University. Prior to Oxford, he had obtained first class undergraduate degrees in Politics and Law, worked as a Judges Clerk (the NZ equivalent of a Judicial Assistant) and practised from New Zealand's leading set of chambers, concentrating on commercial litigation in general and professional liability matters in particular.
David has handled claims against barristers for Bar Mutual throughout his time at Thomas Miller and is well-known in the lawyers professional liability market for his involvement in most of the significant/high quantum claims against barristers in recent years. In addition, he is leading Bar Mutual's Managers' response to the changes heralded by the Legal Services Act 2007.
He has also handled claims against solicitors, patent and trade mark agents and occupational pension trustees, as well as providing risk assessment reports for underwriters on proposals for ATE insurance in commercial litigation.
Miranda joined Thomas Miller after qualifying as a solicitor at Kendall Freeman, a specialist insurance firm in the City.
She handles claims and disciplinary complaints against barristers and claims against solicitors.
Adrian was appointed Director of Thomas Miller (Management Services) Ltd and Thomas Miller Professional Indemnity Ltd in 2013, having joined the Professional Indemnity Division of Thomas Miller in 2008.
He worked previously at AXA and in private practice.
He managed AXA's run-off portfolio of professional indemnity claims.
Adrian managed substantial claims in the London Market, and mediated in the United States and Ireland.
Joined Thomas Miller in 2001.
Rajiv has had a varied career starting off in the profession as an Auditor, auditing companies such as P & I mutual marine.
He then moved on to join Commercial Union (now AVIVA) where he performed various roles in their Life and Fund Management businesses. After which he joined an IT company.
Sarah joined the Professional Indemnity Division of Thomas Miller in 1988.
Initially working for the Divisional General Manager she is now responsible for the Administration of Bar Mutual and is involved in the claims administration for SIMIA.
Richard has accumulated over 30 years investment experience.
He joined Thomas Miller Investment in 1992 and holds responsibility for fixed income and currency management and acts for a number of clients as their portfolio manager. Richard also has experience in managing hedge fund investments.
Prior to joining Thomas Miller, Richard worked for Scandinavian Bank Ltd and S.G.Warburg Group. At S.G. Warburg Richard worked within the fixed income, equity and convertible bond divisions.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and holds the Diploma of the Association of International Bond Dealers.
